is college a waste?
im sure all you at one time or another have thought about what am i doing in college? is this gonna get me anywhere, i think most people go to college to get a good job but that doesnt always happen. Some people say college is a great thing, the higher education you have the higher salary you will earn if you get a job it will also protect you financially and ensure that you keep the job. But i know others say college is a waste of time, not only that but its cost riduculous amounts of money, not only that but if you do graduate you'll end up paying the loans back for the rest of your life and earning probably a low wage, but think about it in the end college vs no college, the goal is to get a good job right? Now days its about the people you know, how motivated and determined you are and how goal oriented you are as an individual. But you can never say if college is a waste of time or money its what you do with your education and the knowledge you learn.

I totally agree! Don't get me wrong, I hope to someday graduate from college with my fabulously amazing degree and go off to make millions of dollars (that's the dream *sigh*) but I'm also here to soak up knowledge, I stopped going to school after high school for almost 5 years and I started to feel like I was illiterate or something! Everything I learned in high school was fading away and I had no opportunity to learn anything new. That was a big reason for me to come back, just to continue my own personal education whether it pertained to what I was going into or not; to learn, just to learn. I think it's all about your point of view, attitude, and your willingness to change yourself (and lose all free time in exchange) that make the college experience useful in your life.
ReplyDeleteI had a discussion about this with my brother awhile ago. He ended up dropping out of college after he found the love of his life because it just wasn't for him. He and his wife have, however, sought many alternative forms of learning. They love watching/listening to tapes on how to do many different things given by college professors and other professionals and so in that way they are educating themselves. I think it just depends on what you're goal is to be in life. Some people can get away with a high school degree if they have the experience and gusto to get places. For many of us (cough-me) however, we need the golden ticket into the professional world-a degree. I'm not complaining though. I think being in a college environment has potential to open your eyes and broaden your perspectives on things you haven't thought of before.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Nowadays people need a college degree to get a job and earn good money. It’s like that in South Korea, where I am from. That’s why I am here to study English, even though it is really expensive to study in a college in the US. Sometimes it is really stressful because I want to do something else I like, rather than going to college and spending all my time studying. However, more education equals more chances to get high salary. That makes me go crazy. I think sometimes it is waste going to college because we take some classes that we will never use the stuff we learned or remember it in our lives. If people don’t have desire to go to college to learn something, they will waste time and money. They will have to find a way that makes them happy.
